About São Sebastião
Vila de São Sebastião is one of the oldest settlements on Terceira, in the Angra do Heroísmo municipality, on the island's south-east coast. The 15th-century São Sebastião Main Church is a rare example of medieval religious architecture in the Azores. The village preserves traditional stone houses, a pillory and an enormous Império do Espírito Santo — one of the most imposing on the island. The Holy Spirit festivities between May and June are the highlight of the local calendar.
