About Calheta
Calheta is the easternmost town on São Jorge island, wedged between towering cliffs that drop down to the coastal fajãs. The municipality includes the world-famous Fajã dos Cubres and Fajã de Santo Cristo — reachable only on foot or by trail — known for the clams farmed in its lagoon. Calheta is also one of the hubs producing PDO São Jorge cheese, and the town has a small fishing harbour with views over Pico and Terceira.
