Capelas is a parish on the north coast of São Miguel, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande — the village looks out over the Atlantic with the authentic character of an Azorean fishing community, surrounded by green hillsides and hydrangeas. The north coast of the island, more exposed and wilder than the sheltered south, gives Capelas an atmosphere of genuine maritime rural life.
