About Horta

Horta, the main town of Faial, is known as the "mid-Atlantic crossroads" — a mandatory stop for sailboats crossing the ocean since the 19th century. The marina is famous for the murals painted by visiting sailors, and the legendary Peter Café Sport is the social heart of the town. Visit the Faial Botanical Garden, the Caldeira viewpoint (an enormous vegetation-covered volcanic crater) and soak in the views of Pico, rising directly across the channel.
