About São Roque
São Roque is a parish of the Ponta Delgada municipality on São Miguel's south coast, known for Pópulo Beach — the island's most popular city beach — and for Praia Pequena. It has natural pools, seafront terraces and the quickest access to the centre of Ponta Delgada. The parish also has the São Roque Church, one of the oldest on the island, with 18th-century tiles and gilded woodwork. It is a transition zone between the city and the rural coast of Vila Franca do Campo.
