About Ponta Delgada

Ponta Delgada is a parish of the São Vicente municipality, on Madeira's north coast, famous for the Festa do Senhor Jesus — one of the archipelago's largest pilgrimages, held on the first Sunday of September since 1590. The village sits right by the sea between green cliffs, with natural pools, a small fishing harbour and the Bom Jesus Church, which venerates an image of the Crucified Christ that, according to legend, was found washed up at sea. It is one of the most authentic stops along Madeira's north coast.
