About Porto Moniz
Porto Moniz is a village on Madeira's northwestern tip, famous for its natural swimming pools carved out of volcanic lava — one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal. The municipality covers some of the wildest landscapes on the island, with the UNESCO-listed Laurisilva forest, the mist-shrouded Fanal plateau with its ancient trees, and the remote village of Seixal. The public lava pools let visitors bathe in seawater filtered through black rock, with the Atlantic waves crashing on the outer edges.
