About Calheta

Calheta is a municipality in western Madeira that stretches from the southwest coast up to the central plateau of Paul da Serra. Calheta town has a man-made golden-sand beach, a marina and the Casa das Mudas Arts Centre — an award-winning contemporary architecture building. The municipality includes famous villages such as Jardim do Mar (recognised as one of the Atlantic's top big-wave surf spots), Paul do Mar, Fajã da Ovelha, and Rabaçal, the starting point of the island's most spectacular levada walks, such as the Levada das 25 Fontes.
