Faial is a small parish on Madeira's dramatic north coast, nestled between Santana and Porto da Cruz beneath the towering mass of Penha de Águia — the great basalt promontory known as Eagle Rock that dominates this stretch of coastline. The village sits above sheer cliffs dropping to the Atlantic and is surrounded by terraced agricultural land climbing steeply into the mountains. The Miradouro do Guindaste viewpoint offers some of the most striking coastal panoramas on the island.
