About Tomar

Tomar is the city of the Knights Templar, dominated by the Convent of Christ — a UNESCO World Heritage site that blends Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance architecture. The charming old town sits along the Nabão river with the Chapel of São Gregório, the old Synagogue (one of the oldest in Portugal) and the Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes park. Every four years, Tomar hosts the spectacular Festa dos Tabuleiros, where young women parade through the streets balancing enormous towers of bread and flowers on their heads.
