About Sagres

Sagres is a parish of the Vila do Bispo municipality at the southwestern tip of Portugal and mainland Europe, where Prince Henry the Navigator is said to have founded his school of navigation in the 15th century. The imposing Sagres Fortress, with its enigmatic wind rose, dominates the windswept headland. A short drive away, Cape St. Vincent with its lighthouse marks mainland Europe's southwesternmost point. The Martinhal, Mareta, Beliche and Tonel beaches draw surfers from all over the world.
