About Funchal

Funchal is the capital of Madeira and the island's main urban hub, set in a natural amphitheatre of volcanic slopes tumbling down to the Atlantic. The historic centre features the Gothic Cathedral, the Lavradores Market, the São Tiago Fort and the Old Town with its famous painted doors. Take the cable car up to Monte and come back down in a traditional wicker toboggan.
