About Alvor
Alvor is a historic fishing village in the Portimão municipality, set against the estuary that shares its name — one of the most important wetlands in the Algarve, classified as a Special Protection Area. The old centre of narrow lanes drops down to the fishing harbour, where sardines, sea bass and octopus are still landed. Alvor Beach and Praia dos Três Irmãos offer long sandy stretches and sea-sculpted rock formations. King John II of Portugal died in Alvor in 1495.
