About Caldas da Rainha

Caldas da Rainha was founded in 1488 by Queen Leonor after she discovered the healing properties of its sulphurous thermal waters — the Thermal Hospital still operates today. The town is known for the artistic ceramics of Bordallo Pinheiro, with humorous and naturalistic pieces you can see at the Ceramics Museum. The D. Carlos I Park, the daily fruit market on Praça da República and the nearby Óbidos Lagoon make this a must-visit on the West coast.
