Ferragudo is one of the most picturesque villages in the Algarve — a cluster of white-washed houses tumbling down to the mouth of the Arade river, crowned by the 16th-century Castle of São João. Directly across the water from Portimão, it retains an unhurried fishing village character, with a wide sandy beach, local restaurants and some of the finest views on the southern coast.
